Leer libros en inglés es fundamental para aprender inglés. Obviamente. De verdad, esto es algo que no dejo de repetir a mis alumnos, aunque muchos de ellos no me hacen demasiado caso. 
Sin embargo, a un nivel B1, por ejemplo, no hay más que ver la diferencia entre los que leen libros en inglés nivel B1 y los que no. Los que hacen uso de la lectura, asimilan muchísimo mejor el vocabulario y son capaces de superar ese nivel B1 de lectura muy fácilmente, mientras que los que no hacen caso de mis consejos, a veces se quedan estancados y son incapaces de mejorar. Además, los libros de texto de nivel B1 también hacen mucho hincapié en la lectura, por lo que también son un buen recurso para aprender inglés.
Por ello, en este post os traigo una lista exhaustiva de los mejores libros en inglés nivel B1, pero no solo de libros para leer en inglés, sino también de libros de texto de nivel B1 con los que trabajar todas las destrezas, incluyendo libros de exámenes de B1. Pero antes, veamos qué es el nivel B1 de inglés y qué se espera de una persona que sepa leer a un nivel B1.
El marco común europeo de referencia para las lenguas (MCERL), comúnmente conocido como marco común europeo (MEC), establece los distintos niveles comunes de referencia según la competencia lingüística de los usuarios de una lengua. Entre estos niveles de referencia se encuentra el nivel B1, que según el marco común europeo (MEC), significa que un usuario:
Ahora que conocemos lo que un usuario de nivel B1 de inglés, o cualquier otro idioma, puede hacer, pasemos a qué debe poder leer alguien con un B1 de inglés.
Genial. Ya sabemos qué tipo de textos y escritos debe poder comprender alguien con un nivel B1 de inglés. Ahora os hablaré de los libros en inglés nivel B1 que yo recomiendo a todos mis alumnos, tanto libros de texto para aprobar exámenes de B1 como libros de lectura de nivel B1 para perfeccionar la comprensión oral y aumentar el vocabulario y el dominio de estructuras gramaticales y Writing.

Sin duda, si quieres aprobar el examen de nivel B1 de Cambridge, llamado B1 Preliminary, el Complete PET es una apuesta segura para cubrir lo esencial.
Si bien el Complete PET for Spanish Speakers toca todos los puntos gramaticales y semánticos del nivel B1, te hará falta un libro de nivel B1 que realmente indague en cada punto y te ofrezca la práctica necesaria para adquirir los conocimientos y destrezas necesarias para aprobar el examen de B1. Por ello, con mis alumnos yo siempre utilizo el Grammar and Vocabulary for PET y el Intermediate Language Practice. Aunque ambos ofrecen muy buena práctica tanto de gramática como de vocabulario, el Grammar and Vocabulary for PET incluye Listenings, pero los ejercicios son un poco monótonos, y el Intermediate Language Practice no ofrece Listenings, pero ofrece mucha práctica más contextualizada y dinámica.

Este es el clásico de todos los clásicos de los libros de gramática de nivel intermedio. Aunque no da preparación específica para ningún examen de nivel B1 de inglés, toca todos los puntos gramaticales y te lleva desde un nivel A2+ hasta un nivel B1+. Es decir, si dominas el contenido de este libro, la gramática de cualquier examen de B1 será pan comido para ti. Además, lo que más me gusta de este libro es que para cualquier ejercicio de gramática has de conocer el vocabulario también, por lo que aprenderás vocabulario de una manera indirecta y practicarás la gramática de nivel B1 con un buen contexto y utilizándola. Definitivamente, el mejor libro de gramática de nivel B1 que existe actualmente.

El Oxford Test of English es un examen nuevo, pero está pegando fuerte en el mundo de la certificación de niveles de inglés. Actualmente solo sirve para certificar los niveles B1 y B2, por lo que aún no hay demasiado material disponible de preparación. A día de hoy, aparte del B1 Preliminary, el examen más famoso de B1 es el Trinity Integrated Skills in English I (ISE I). El problema es que desgraciadamente no hay demasiado material publicado aún para dicho examen, a pesar de su popularidad. Como ya he dicho antes, los libros de nivel B1 pueden catapultar tu nivel de inglés de una manera bruta. La lectura es una destreza lingüística aparentemente pasiva, pero eso mismo: aparentemente. Cuando leemos, ya sea libros de nivel B1 o cualquier otro tipo de libros, ponemos en funcionamiento una serie de mecanismos que activan nuestro vocabulario, nuestra gramática, nuestra comprensión, etc. Por ello, repito, leer es fundamental.
Por este motivo, a continuación os propongo 5 libros para leer en inglés nivel B1. Son libros de lectura nivel B1, no libros de texto como tal, aunque al estar adaptados, muchos traen ejercicios de comprensión y vocabulario que te ayudarán a sacarle incluso más partido a la lectura.
Cuando empezamos a leer en otro idioma, en ocasiones es beneficioso hacerlo con historias con las que ya estamos familiarizados, ya que así nos será más fácil entender bien la historia. ¿Y quién no conoce las historias de Alicia en el país de las maravillasde Lewis Carroll? Si quieres empezar poco a poco a leer en inglés, te recomiendo este clásico de la literatura inglesa: entretenido, gracioso y lleno de imaginación.

Hoy en día, el aprendizaje de idiomas está en su punto álgido. Existen cientos, si no miles, de webs y aplicaciones móviles para aprender idiomas. Hoy en día, está de moda aprender idiomas tan internacionales como el inglés, pero también otros menos hablados como el coreano. Debido a esta popularidad del aprendizaje idiomas, a veces nos encontramos en la siguiente tesitura: ¿Qué idioma aprendo ahora? Y si quiero, ¿es posible aprender varios idiomas al mismo tiempo? La respuesta es un rotunda sí. De hecho, en España no hemos dejado de aprender inglés y francés al mismo tiempo.
Tal y como acabo de decir, es posible aprender dos idiomas al mismo tiempo, y un ejemplo claro es el aprendizaje simultáneo de inglés y francés. Yo mismo, en el instituto, di clases de inglés y francés durante 6 años seguidos, al igual que todos mis compañeros. Y que yo recuerde, el que trabajaba duro aprendía bien los dos idiomas.
Por otro lado, tenemos ejemplos de grados universitarios que requieren el aprendizaje simultáneo de varias lenguas, como por ejemplo el grado de traducción, que requiere al menos de una lengua principal y otra secundaria para poder finalizar la carrera y graduarse.
Sin embargo, si aprender un único idioma no es fácil, aprender varios idiomas a la vezse hace más complicado. Así que en la siguiente sección te doy algunos consejos para facilitarte la tarea.
Uno de los problemas más típicos del aprendizaje simultáneo de inglés y francés, o de cualquier otro par de idiomas, son las interferencias lingüísticas. Por ello, es importante separar en la medida de lo posible ambos idiomas. Una manera de hacer esto es intentar utilizar cada idioma con personas distintas en situaciones distintas. Si lo haces bien, te será más fácil cambiar el chip entre idiomas, evitando las mencionadas interferencias.
El problema a veces es que quieres o tienes que estudiar los dos idiomas el mismo día, y no vas a salir de casa. En este caso, te recomiendo que antes de comenzar a estudiar cada idioma, te pongas algo de audio o música en dicho idioma y te concentres bien para asegurarte de que estás concentrado en esa lengua y únicamente en ella. Cuando vayas a cambiar a la otra, deberías hacer un pequeño descanso y volver a hacer la misma rutina. Además, es siempre una buena idea utilizar distintos colores de bolígrafo o lápiz para cada lengua, así estás dando a tu memoria una herramienta más sobre la que construir la identidad de cada uno de los idiomas que estás aprendiendo al mismo tiempo.
Aunque esto parezca algo contradictorio con el punto anterior, en realidad no lo es. Verás, cuando te estás centrando en un campo semántico o una estructura gramatical que quieres asimilar, intentar aprenderlo en dos o más idiomas simultáneamenterequiere menos esfuerzo que hacerlo primero en uno y luego en otro. Esto es así porque al aprender una palabra o estructura a la vez en varios idiomas, tu mente ya estará centrada en lo que quieres aprender, y utilizará el mismo punto de partida para ambas lenguas. Si lo haces primero en un idioma y luego en otro, quizás la lengua que has aprendido antes puede afectar a la que quieres aprender después.
Hacer que una lengua sea parte de tu día a día es fundamental en el aprendizaje de cualquier idioma. Pero si además quieres aprender varios idiomas al mismo tiempo, esto es incluso más importante, ya que será la única manera de no ir olvidando lo que vas a aprendiendo. Algunas de las formas más simples de hacer esto son cambiar el móvil a uno de los idiomas que estás aprendiendo, escuchar música en esos idiomas, ver series y películas, etc. También puedes hacer la lista de la compra en una de las lenguas, etc. Parecen tonterías, pero para mucha gente que conozco, estos pequeños cambios suponen una gran diferencia a la hora de aprender inglés y francés a la vez.

I am lucky that I get to work regularly with my clients and their families and schools, so have the advantage that I get to know them well. But the first time I meet a child and am making my assessment, there is some really important information I need from the people that know them best. This can be particularly important if the professional is only going to see your child once or twice and needs good information to make the right decisions.
So, there are a number of things that you as parents/ carers of the children we see, should feel happy to ask or tell us and I wish that more people would. It may not always be easy, but it can make a difference to your child so it’s worth speaking up!
– If you feel that what the therapist saw that day wasn’t a good example of ‘the norm’ for your child. Maybe they were silent and can normally do a lot more. Maybe they were really chatty and you hadn’t heard half those words before. Maybe, by complete chance the words the therapist asked your child they could say easily, but you know they struggle on others. Maybe your child is just getting or recovering from a dreadful cold. These are all really important things to let the therapist know so they are better able to judge where your child is developmentally. They often only get a small snap shot so they need to know if it’s a true representation.
– If you don’t understand something the therapist says. It can be really hard to stop and ask for clarification, but is so important. You need to make the most of your appointments and if you are being given information about your child, or advice that you don’t understand, this will not help. No therapist should mind going over something again. It’s very easy to get caught up in words that we use all the time and forget that not everybody does. Words like comprehension, expression and phonology are common speech therapy words, but not for everyone!
– If you really aren’t that concerned but someone has referred you. Or equally if you are really concerned about something. This all helps fill out the picture for us and helps inform our decisions.
– If anybody else is involved or has been in the past. It’s useful for us to know if you have seen a speech therapist before, or if you are waiting for a hearing test or doctor’s appointment.
– If you disagree. Now this is tough. Maybe you could ask for clarification, or say that you’re not sure. But it’s important to have the discussion. It maybe that the therapist doesn’t have all the information and might make a different decision if they did. It might be that the therapist needs to explain their decision again. It maybe something outside of their control, but at least you will know.
– If you haven’t received something or haven’t heard from us. We are all human and make mistakes! If you are expecting something that doesn’t arrive- do let us know!
Just remember that we as therapists want to do our best and help, so if you are leaving confused or unhappy speak up!

A estas alturas ya está de más resaltar la importancia de aprender inglés. El inglés es, a día de hoy (y probablemente lo será por mucho tiempo), la lengua más importante del mundo, y tener unas nociones básicas de este idioma es fundamental. Por ello, en el post de hoy te voy a dar una serie de consejos sobre cómo aprender inglés básico fácilmente. Pero no me voy a centrar en aprender cosas como los colores o los números en inglés (click aquí para aprender los números en inglés), sino en estrategias y recursos que puedes utilizar para aprender el inglés básico que te ayudará a defenderte en el día a día.
Piensa en cómo aprenden los niños cualquier idioma. Lo hacen simplemente por exposición al idioma y por necesidad de comunicarse. Es decir, a los niños no les queda otra que aprender a hablar para conseguir lo que quieren. Pues si estás aprendiendo inglés como adulto, debes utilizar el mismo método, aunque obviamente con grandes diferencias y algunas limitaciones.
Piensa en cosas que haces o utilizas todos los días. Por ejemplo, probablemente utilizas el móvil todos los días a todas horas. ¿Por qué no le cambias el idioma por defecto al inglés? Vas a aprender muchísimas palabras nuevas como “settings”, “camera”, “calendar”, “plane mode”, “search”, los días de la semana, los números en inglés, etc. Es decir, al estar expuesto a ese inglés, lo asimilarás por narices casi sin darte cuenta. Lo mismo puedes (y debes) hacer con el ordenador, la tablet, etc.
Otra estrategia efectiva para la adquisición de vocabulario es el uso de post-its en tu propia casa. Por ejemplo, durante una semana, puedes utilizar post-its para etiquetar cosas en tu cocina, como el frigorífico (fridge), el lavavajillas (dish washer), la tostadora (toaster), los cajones (drawers), etc. Simplemente ver un post-it todos los días durante un tiempo hará que aprendas ese vocabulario irremediablemente.
La motivación, como ya sabemos, es esencial en el aprendizaje en general, y para aprender inglés básico es también fundamental. Y con esto no quiero decir que todo aprendizaje tenga que ser lúdico, a través de juegos y otras estrategias similares. No todo el mundo se motiva de la misma forma, por lo que has de encontrar algo que te motive a ti. A mí por ejemplo, me motiva mucho ver progreso en lo que hago. Si a ti te pasa lo mismo, puedes hacerte una lista de objetivos que quieres conseguir cada semana y observar cómo los cumples y progresas. Por ejemplo, te puedes proponer aprender los números en inglés del 1 al 100, y dedicar esa semana a memorizar los números. Al final de la semana, si los has aprendido, podrás tachar tu objetivo de la lista y pasar a otra cosa. A mí me encanta esa forma de trabajar.
Las herramientas de aprendizaje que utilices determinarán en gran medida tu progreso. Por ello, te recomiendo que te asesores antes de comenzar tu andadura en el aprendizaje del inglés básico. Por un lado, debes utilizar algún libro de texto de nivel básico. El aprendizaje con libro de texto es a veces criticado, pero realmente un buen libro de texto nos marcará una ruta a seguir en términos gramaticales y semánticos, lo cual es fundamental. Por otro lado, existen muchísimas webs y aplicaciones para aprender inglés básico de las que debes hacer uso. Por ejemplo, yo siempre recomiendo Duolingo a mis alumnos. No porque crea que sea milagroso, sino porque me gusta la forma en que plantean el aprendizaje, ya que lo hacen de manera motivadora y centrados en estructuras de oraciones. Además, podrás ir viendo tu progreso y repasando las unidades anteriores. Sin embargo, te animo a que investigues por tu cuenta y veas qué plataformas y apps para aprender inglés te funcionan a ti mejor.
Hoy en día está muy de moda el ser autodidacta, lo cual está genial. Pero sinceramente, incluso los más autodidactas en muchas ocasiones han de recurrir a un profesional. Y esto para aprender inglés básico es esencial. Un profesor de inglés o una academia de inglés sabrá identificar tus carencias y fortalezas y explotarlas para que tu progreso sea lo más acelerado y efectivo posible. Por ello, te animo a que, aparte de tus estrategias de autoaprendizaje, hagas uso de los servicios que ofrecemos los profesores y academias de inglés. Piensa que aprender inglés es como ponerse en forma. Cuando te apuntas a un gimnasio, puedes ponerte en forma tú sol@, de manera independiente, pero lo harás mejor y evitando lesiones con un entrenador personal o con las clases grupales. Para aprender inglés básico ocurre exactamente lo mismo.

Apple cider vinegar treatments have been trending recently – ranging from hair masks, to facial toner, and as a widely-supported dietary supplement. However, estheticians discourage clients from using this acid as it can be harsh on delicate facial skin. There are many that swear by this store-bought exfoliant, however it’s ingredients are far too harsh to use on most skin types. St. Ive’s active exfoliating ingredient is walnut shells. Coconut oil has continued to rise in popularity over the past five years. Lotion substitutes, hair masks, and beauty hacks have flooded the market. However, recently studies have shown that coconut oil is a level 5 comedogenic oil, which means it clogs the pores and while it smells delicious, it has no place on the hair or skin. In small doses, coconut oil makes a great addition to other products, but by itself will clog your pores and cause buildup.
While we fully support the return to all things natural, some ingredients are better left in your kitchen. While olive oil is only a level 2 comedogenic oil, much like coconut oil, it does not belong on your skin. Many would argue that olive oil has been used as a moisturizer since the dawn of time, which is true. However, the olive oil sold in most grocery stores is not high quality enough to be used on skin.

When Noah was younger and working to accomplish some of his early milestones, we spent a good amount of time taking him to his physical, occupational, and speech therapy appointments. (In fact, he was doing pediatric treadmill training long before he could walk!) We’re fortunate that we live in an area with access to many great therapy resources.
At times, Noah was in daycare while also needing to go to his various therapy appointments, which meant a fair amount of travel time. It would have been great if there would have been a way to combine Noah’s daycare with his private therapy sessions! This was one of the great things I liked about Pediatrics Plus, a specialized pediatric healthcare provider based out of Arkansas that my wife and I recently visited. They are opening their first location in Frisco, Texas in the coming weeks, and if you live within driving distance to one of their locations, I think this post will interest you!
Pediatric Plus is unique in that they offer both a developmental preschool and private therapy sessions. As a parent of a child with special needs, this alone makes Pediatric Plus stand out. They are based out of Arkansas where they have several locations and are now bringing their organization to Texas. Check out this description from their website:

We had a chance to talk to the owners, and tour one of their facilities in Arkansas, and I was impressed! The facilities were top notch. They were clean, excellent looking, and looked well taken care of. We were able to see at least one of the classes in action and it was great to see that it was an inclusive classroom. (Meaning there were typical kids and kids special needs in the same class.)
As nice as the facilities were, I really liked the owners and the leadership The leadership of an organization matters, and this is a staff that really seems to know what they are doing. Pediatrics Plus also has a non-profit called “Community Connections” that allows children with special needs to attend various camps (I believe for free!)
That’s amazing!
From what I read on their website it looks like they made an individual treatment plan for each child instead of a one-size-fits-all approach, which is great. Onother things I learned is that in Arkansas the state pays for a child’s therapy regardless of the family’s income! I wish that happened in Texas (Where we live.) However, the leadership wants to work to get the same thing to happen in Texas! Wouldn’t that be great? In fact, I would like to see that happen all across the United States.

In this crazy competitive Phoenix real estate market it’s challenging for a seller to distinguish your offer from the fray. I recently had a listing receive 7 offers within 24 hours. They were all so similar it was ridiculous. I ran net sheets for the sellers so they’d know what their bottom line would be with each and 5 of them were within $200 once everything was said and done. How do you pick one?
Enter the Buyer Love Letter. I’ve had clients write a letter to the seller many times over the last several years and it frequently is mentioned when we get an accepted offer. I just had a first time buyer get an accepted offer, in part, by using a letter to the seller.
A Buyer Love Letter is basically a letter to the sellers telling them a little about the buyer and why this home is THE ONE for the buyers. It’s helpful to note things about the house that are desirable or ways that the sellers have maintained the home, upgrades they’ve made, etc. Indicating that the buyer plans to love the home and take care of it as the seller has. Compliment the seller and try to make a personal connection. Not only does it make your offer stand out but it also helps the seller realize that you’re committed to your offer and seeing the contract through to completion. It helps them to see you as humans with housing needs and wants similar to their own.
Note – I’ve seen it go too far. Don’t be weird about it, OK? I had a client I was working with (we parted ways and didn’t complete a transaction) who decided to bake cookies and deliver them to the sellers. Sweet idea maybe but the sellers felt that was over the top and a little creepy. Not recommended.

It’s hard to believe that the very first RE BarCamp was ten years ago. Looking back, it is one of the best conferences that I have ever attended. It created a movement. It created friendships, it made us think. Many of us that were there ten years ago are still thinking… And still doing cool things.
Sure, a LOT of things are different, but many are exactly the same. Relationships, the desire to be better at our craft, the desire to share information freely with people who make a difference in the lives of others. These are some of the things that bar camp stands for.
Thanks to the efforts of many of the people who put on the very first Real Estate Bar Camp, there was a REBCX this past Monday in San Francisco and it was glorious. Sure, much of the day felt like old home week. We laughed, we embraced, we talked about where we have been, where we are and where we will go. There was an amazing feeling to a day that is hard to explain.
If you are not familiar with what a Real Estate Bar Camp is, this post will probably make absolutely NO sense to you. If you are a fan, you will hopefully appreciate what this 10 year anniversary tribute meant to so many people.
Personally, I’d like to thank everyone involved in making this happen and I’d like to thank everyone who attended. While it was awesome to see SO many great friends in attendance, it was also great to meet people from near and far. People from the east coast, hawaii, Australia and all over the US were in attendance! One of the most interesting conversations I had was with my new frend from Australia who explalined to me a lot of the differences in the US real estate business vs the Aussie real estate business. It was fascinating stuff, for sure!
OK, There WAS a Bar:
After REBCX, many of us did walk down the street and continued our conversations at an actual bar. Believe it or not, some of my very best friends in the real estate business are people I have met because of the RE Bar Camp that I attended 10 years ago this week. These people continue to be inspirational to me as well as being great sources of knowledge that I lean on quite often. Obviously, not all of the people i know from bar camps could make it to this 10 year reunion and that’s ok. They were missed but, they will continue to be a part of an amazing group of friends that I have made from North to South and from east to West.
Personally, I am already looking forward to REBCXX. Hopefully, I’ll see you there…
