Mindfulness in March

What is mindfulness? It is paying attention to what is going on at the present moment without judgement. Instead of reacting to a situation, mindfulness allows us to respond.

Are there benefits to mindfulness? There are many! Below are just a few:

  • Reduces feelings of stress
  • Eases test anxiety
  • Improves attention
  • Increases compassion for self and others
  • Helps regulate feelings

Is mindfulness meditating?

There are many ways to practice mindfulness. Being mindful of our breath is one way. We can mindfully eat and walk. In fact, we can be mindful to everything throughout the day through our five senses, as well as with our thoughts and emotions.

March 13-17 Mid-March Mindfulness Week. The counselors, along with various community members are offering a variety of mindfulness activities. Whether you have experience or are new to mindfulness, you are welcomed to attend any of the events.

Monday, March 13, lunch hour, coloring in the cafeteria

  • We often see young children coloring but it is not just for kids, it is great for everyone. Coloring is therapeutic for all. It is a stress-free activity that can help quiet the mind, reduce stress and anxiety, and help train the brain to focus.

Monday, March 13, 4:30pm-5:30pm, Zen Walk, meet at the dome, lower dance studio

  • Do you always see meditation/Zen as someone sitting still in a quiet place? Stereotype! Wearing your clothes could be Zen. Drinking your water could be Zen. Eating your food could be Zen. Walking could be Zen. Zen Walk has been practiced in Shaolin Temple by monks since hundreds of years ago. Find yourself impatient sitting still to meditate? Come join us to experience some Meditation in Motion.
